Newborn Sessions
How does a newborn session work?
Newborn sessions are scheduled for early evening or weekend times where we can devote enough time to capture the poses. We shoot in a very warm room so I encourage parents to dress light. Sessions can sometimes last up to three hours so it is important to bring all of the diapers, bottles and wipes you will need. Some babies settle easily while others take a long time to fall asleep- every session is different. Many of the babies on my site are under two weeks old so the earlier the better! My style leans more towards the sleeping poses- this is what I wait for and are the pictures you can expect.
My baby is over two weeks of age- can we try a photo session?
Newborn sessions are limited to babies under two weeks of age. Typically, babies between two weeks and 4 months would be better served at a portrait studio that supplies back props for infants.
Should I bring anything along?
I always suggest bringing some personal things along. I love little caps (in pink or blue) and I think it is very important for parents to bring along a nice blanket (pink for girls- blue for boys) Many parents bring some props along as well- we will try to work with whatever we can, keeping in mind that not all props work well for photos.
I have other Children- Can I bring them along for pictures with the baby?
Due to space restrictions and the length of time of sessions I will no longer be having the babies siblings come for the photo shoot. Newborn sessions are limited to the baby and a max. of two adults
How many poses are included?
We will try to do as many poses as your baby will tolerate. Some babies are sleepier and pose for many pictures. Some babies rile quickly and take a while longer to get settled and that is one of the reasons I don't have a time limit on a session. Usually there are twenty different proofs to view.
My baby has a rash/ scratch/ baby acne- will this show in the photos?
Some scratches and baby acne are very easy to airbrush on the computer. Many small touch-ups are made before they are posted on a private online gallery for you to view.
Do I get the negatives?
Portrait images are not issued on a disc although reprints can be ordered with the package or at any time in the 6 months after your session at very reasonable rates. The copyright of the photos belongs to the photographer.
Maternity Sessions
How does a maternity session work?
A maternity session takes about an hour and is lit via studio lighting in a small room I have devoted to portraits. I usually need about a weeks notice to schedule a time and typically a weeknight or a Sunday is available for a session. Usually within a few days your proofs are placed on an online gallery for you to choose the package prints. Usually there are a combination and many different poses.
How far along should I be?
Some clients come for a maternity photo session in their seventh month while I have shot others who are almost ready to POP! There is no magical time, whenever you feel the most comfortable with your body is the best time to have them done.
What should I wear?
I suggest bringing a number of different outfits. I like tank tops (in white and black), smaller sweaters (because you have a huge belly now (-:) that show some belly, and shirts that button. It's also very important to bring some black pants along with any other bottoms that you may want to bring.
I have stretch marks, will they show? Can they be airbrushed?
Stretch marks are a tough one- I can certainly minimize the look of them via photo shop but sometimes not completely.
Can I bring my own props?
I have a number of little props that I frequently use but many clients bring in their own little favorites such as baby booties, toys, or sporting team merchandise.
